Synthetic Benchmarks
Starting off, we have a few synthetic benchmarks which were compiled in a single picture thanks to Videocardz. The RTX 4080 can perform 9% faster on overclocking. At stock settings, the RTX 4080 scores 13778 points which is 25% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. We compared the RTX 4080’s 3 benchmarks against various GPUs, including a few leaked ones from the Lovelace lineup. The RTX 4080 is almost 2x the RTX 3080 on overclocking, though the actual in-game performance can vary slightly.
Gaming Benchmarks
This is probably the most anticipated section of today’s article and to be honest, the RTX 4080 packs quite the punch. Hardware leaker, MEGAsizeGPU on Twitter and Chiphell posted a few in-game benchmarks of the RTX 4080. Spoiler alert, it can push out more than 100 frames in almost every demanding game at 4K. The test bench featured AMD’s budget Ryzen 5 7600X, which is kind of equal to Intel’s i9-12900K. The leaker also gave us a few benchmarks featuring the RTX 4090 and the i9-12900KF to show where the RTX 4080 stands. We also added AMD’s upcoming RX 7900 XTX to the mix for the sake of comparison. The RTX 4080 is actually much closer to the RTX 4090 than we thought with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Shadow Of The Tomb Raider being the anomalies. Though, that can be compensated by the fact that you get near ~100 FPS in these games at 4K. As for AMD, things are slightly weird. The 7900 XTX can outclass the 4090 in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but it loses to the RTX 4080 in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Conclusion
To sum things up, the RTX 4080 is a powerhouse that can fuel almost every modern title at the highest settings. Although, such performance comes at a hefty price of $1199, which can go higher if you opt for AIB variants. AMD’s RX 7900 XTX is $200 cheaper and performs nearly identically if not better (based on the 1.5x-1.7x metric). Though, the final verdict shall be made when reviews go live for both GPUs.
